SMHS Stellar Achievement Award

SMHS Stellar Achievement Award

This honorary award is given at the discretion of the Board and Chief Executive to a team or individual, recognising significant achievements that do not easily fit into any of the existing Excellence Awards categories, or which go across multiple categories.

It honours exceptional achievements, extraordinary distinction or outstanding service for projects which may be of significant scale or a lifetime achievement and not confined to a single year.

It is not awarded every year, but only on the occasion when it is deemed to be warranted.

Peel Health Campus transition and commissioning – South Metropolitan Health Service

Members of the Peel Health Campus transition and commissioning team stand outside the hospital's emergency department. In this large and complex change management project, the SMHS Peel Health Campus (PHC) Transition and Commissioning (T&C) team worked to safely and seamlessly transfer staff and services from Ramsay Health Care (RHC) to SMHS, and back into public hands.

As a major initiative for the State Government, the team were tasked with ensuring the seamless transfer of RHC staff and services to SMHS whilst maintaining access to safe, high-quality care for those in the Peel-Murray region.

Through an extensive engagement and onboarding program, the T&C team worked for three years to positively engage RHC staff to bring them into the SMHS team, and a new work environment as public hospital.

Engagement was delivered in collaboration with RHC managers to empower staff to get involved in the transition, culminating in a hugely successful welcome week with over 250 staff attending on day one and over 750 attending in total. The positive impact the T&C team had is evident through the transition rate, with 95 per cent of staff choosing to work for SMHS
