Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) has hit double digits!

To commemorate the occasion, we threw a party for staff and patients last week with a range of activities and events to highlight a decade of caring for our community.

We also welcomed back some of our 'first' patients – this included our first baby born, our first State Rehabilitation Service (SRS) patient and our first heart transplant recipient – to help mark the major milestone.

Lucia Cox was one of our first SRS patients who was transferred over from Shenton Park on move day – 4 October 2014.

"I remember it being very exciting and it was nice to arrive at FSH and see the new patient rehab space," Lucia said.

Joe Tseng was the first baby born at FSH and will celebrate his 10th birthday in December. Joe and his Mum, Wei Chen, were delighted to return to the hospital and join in the celebrations.

"FSH will always hold a special place in our hearts," Wei Chen said.

"We are grateful for the exceptional care and support we received from the very beginning."

Rachel Boggs had just turned 17 when she received the very first heart transplant at FSH.

"It's still the best birthday present I’ve ever received!" Rachel said.

"The lifesaving transplant and the ongoing care I have received at FSH since my surgery has been amazing."

To mark the moment in history, the Minister for Health and Mental Health, Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA and Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group Executive Director Neil Doverty jointly closed a time capsule filled with items and messages significant to the present day.

Created by a local men's shed, the jarrah wood time capsule includes over 30 contemporary hospital items contributed by staff, patients and members of our community.

Some of the items included are medical equipment, research papers published by our staff, COVID PPE, important medication in use today, as well as letters and reflections from staff and patients.

The time capsule will be displayed in a cabinet in the FSH main foyer to be opened in 100 years' time.

With our Emergency Department set to turn 10 early next year – keep an eye out for more celebrations to come!
