South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) is proud to become the first public WA health service to have rolled-out the Digital Medical Record (DMR) across all sites, with the recent welcoming of Peel Health Campus (PHC) into the DMR family network.

Marking a significant milestone in SMHS’ digital journey, last week’s successful implementation of the DMR at PHC means paper-based medical records are now a thing of the past, with SMHS clinicians now able to monitor their patient’s medical history from one, central digital location.

SMHS A/Chief Executive, Neil Doverty said the DMR rollout is an important milestone for SMHS’ ongoing delivery of best practice healthcare.

“We are proud to welcome PHC into the digital medical record space now in place across our entire SMHS hospital and healthcare network.

“Importantly, the system gives clinicians access to a universal view of a patient’s medical history, enabling them to work more efficiently and effectively, and supports improved quality of patient care.

“This follows PHC formally joining the SMHS family back into August 2024, and marks another key milestone in our combined history.

“Together, it’s just one of the ways we’re working to deliver excellent healthcare, every time,” Neil said.

PHC Executive Director, Kellie Blyth said the DMR roll-out will better support PHC to deliver safe, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for people of the Peel-Murray region.

“The DMR system allows our clinicians to deliver more timely and continuous care, and reduces delays and risks associated with copying, storing and retrieving paper records.

“We would like to thank everyone involved for their support with the roll-out. It was a mammoth team effort and the culmination of many months of planning, staff education, training, and testing, which will ultimately benefit those in our care,” Kellie said.

The DMR initiative is being delivered by the SMHS Digital Health team in collaboration with Health Support Services, forming part of Stage 1 of the statewide Electronic Medical Record Program led by the Department of Health.
