Consultant opportunities

Work within multidisciplinary teams across the SMHS hospital and community-based services network

Consultant opportunities

Consultants and senior medical officers across SMHS are at the core of our multidisciplinary teams focused on responding to health challenges. Within SMHS there are more than 50 specialties across our tertiary/quaternary, general hospital and community settings.

SMHS currently includes three major hospitals offering inpatient and outpatient services including:

  • Fiona Stanley Hospital, one of the newest public hospitals in the state and a major tertiary hospital providing comprehensive health services to adults, youth, children and neonates
  • Fremantle Hospital, which provides specialist hospital services including mental health, aged care and elective surgical specialties
  • Rockingham General Hospital, which provides emergency care and a range of inpatient services across a variety of disciplines
  • Peel Health Campus, a regional health campus transitioning from a private healthcare facility to become part of the SMHS public hospital network in 2024.

In addition to this, several smaller hospitals and a range of community-based services provide a diversity of locations and roles.

Living and working in WA gives you access to its easy-going lifestyle and one of the most beautiful parts of Australia. The state’s amazing weather and climate gives you plenty of time to enjoy the great outdoors. There is something on offer for individuals and families alike, whether it’s the white sandy beaches that span our coastline, the inland national parks with their stunning array of plants and wildlife, or the outdoor entertainment precincts.

If you’re located in other parts of Australia or overseas, you’re encouraged to follow in the footsteps of many of our consultants who have decided to make WA their home. Our staff will tell you that they are now not only working in a field that challenges and fulfils them, but that they are do so in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Hear from our international team members in the video below:

Read about the recently updated relocation incentives available via the Belong campaign (external site), which applies to experienced interstate and international consultants relocating to WA and has been extended to 30 June 2024.
