The South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) has secured $1,197,175 through the Research and Innovation Capacity and Capability Building Program (RICCBP) 2025, funded by the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) fund of Western Australia (WA).

The project titled 'HealthReady: From vision to reality' is a pioneering initiative designed by the SMHS Transformation team to strengthen the WA health and medical innovation ecosystem by fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals, innovators, and industry.

The first of its kind in the WA public health system, the pipeline provides a chance to collaborate directly, safely and quickly with clinical experts to collect real-world data and feedback.

HealthReady supports innovators to introduce, test, and validate new healthcare solutions within WA's public health system, positioning WA as a national leader in innovation and manufacturing, creating jobs and attracting skills.

Professor Girish Dwivedi from the SMHS Innovation Team said the SMHS HealthReady Pipeline has the potential to significantly accelerate healthcare innovation and commercialisation not only in the State but across the country.

"Innovation has always been central to change and over the decades innovation has introduced new possibilities for treatments and patient care, enhancing and saving lives, and turning best ideas into standard practice, Girish said.

"The SMHS HealthReady pipeline is our pathway for health start-ups and innovators to introduce, test and validate their products and ideas.

SMHS Director of Innovation, Deepti Shukla, said the pipeline will make a positive difference by making ideas and innovations health ready and helping to bring new innovations to patients quicker.

With the SMHS catchment area encompassing one quarter of WA's population (more than 650,000 people), the HealthReady Pipeline offers innovators a sizable market within for validation, making your idea easily scaled to WA and Australian markets.

This program represents a major step towards a future where WA leads in health innovation and delivers tangible benefits to patients and the community.
